Downloading the McAfee software installer
Note: If you already have an existing downloaded .dmg installer file for McAfee, either rename it or delete the file. Any conflict in filenames may confuse the operating system and it may use the wrong or incompatible/outdated installer file to install a previous version of McAfee. This will also result in an unsuccessful activation. Please rename or delete the previous .dmg file before starting to download the latest installer .dmg file from your browser.
Please follow the steps below to download the McAfee installer from their official website:
- Open your browser and head to mcafee.com.
- Click on My Account and then click Sign In.
- Type in your McAfee email address and password which is associated with your McAfee account. Then click on Log In.
- Go to My Apps and then click on McAfee Internet Security.
- Go to Protect All Your Devices. From there, click on Download.
- Accept the user license agreement to continue.
- If you notice any serial number in the next page under the download button, please note it down. It will allow you to activate your product later.
NOTE: The serial number is valid only for 2 hours. So please make sure to use the serial number within 2 hours. Otherwise, you will need to regenerate a new serial number with 2 hours validity. - Click on Download button to download the software installer.
- The McAfee software installer will get downloaded in the default download folder of your browser.
Installing McAfee Internet Security on macOS
- Navigate to the folder where you have installed the McAfee installer. It should correspond to the browser’s download folder on macOS.
- Now double-click on the McAfee-MacInstaller-x.x.dmg file.
- During the installation procedure, choose your desired browsers (you can choose multiple browsers) where the Internet Security addon or extension is required.
- Start the installation by double-clicking on the McAfee-MacInstaller
- If prompted, confirm your macOS administrator credentials (the username and password of your macOS profile).
- Now enter the product serial number that you had copied earlier from the browser. Once verified, the installer will start to download the required files and prepare for the final installation.
