How to fix HP printer offline problem?

Step 1:

Download a distinct version of HP Print and Scan Doctor. This version should be created specifically for tackling Printer Offline issues.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe. It should be in your downloads folder.
  3. Click start and select your printer.
  4. If your printer is not available in the list, restart your printer, unplug, and plug again, and click the retry button in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  5. If you believe there is a connection problem, try changing the data cable of the printer, use the original cable, and click retry again. You may also follow steps given in the app itself, they are pretty much self-explanatory.
  6. If there is a prompt from setup to turn printer updates ON, do it, Click YES.
  7. If you see Default Printer dialogue offering to set your printer as default, Click Yes.
  8. Try printing your name or something, it should be working now. If it doesn’t, try our next steps.

Step 2:

Check the printer connection port and Windows services status, they are probably not working as they should be.

WSD port printers:

If your printer has a WSD port, check the Windows Function Discovery services, a TCP/IP port should be added if necessary.

  • Open Control Panel, and then open View devices and printers.
  • Right-click your printer by selecting the printer that you use, choose Printer Properties, and then open the Ports tab.
  • See if your printer has a WSD port.

A printer that uses a WSD port, If your printer does not have a WSD port, skip to the next instructions in this tutorial.

If your printer has a WSD port, proceed with these instructions :

  1. Open services list.
  2. Scroll down the list to find Function Discovery Provider Host as well as Function Discovery Resource Publication, and then see the Status and Startup Type data.
  3. Please disable your antivirus if it gives any warnings when you are messing with your services.
  4. If both services are ‘Running’ and the Startup is ‘Automatic’, proceed to the next step.
  5. If the services are blank and the Startup Type is ‘Manual’, right-click the title of the service, click Properties, change the Startup Type to Automatic, and then select Start below Service status. choose OK, and then proceed to the next step.
  6. Get back to the Devices and Printers window, Refresh the page and see if your Offline printer is back online.
  7. If your printer is not Offline Printer anymore, the problem is clearly solved.
  8. If your printer is still an Offline Printer, continue with these procedures.
  9. Print a Network Configuration Report from the Offline Printer’s setting or menu of wireless.
  10. Open your printer’s menu, choose Printer Properties, select the Ports window, and then choose to Add Port.
  1. Click Standard TCP/IP Port, and then choose New
  2. Get back to the Devices and Printers window, Refresh the page, and see if your Offline printer is back online.
  3. If your printer is not Offline Printer anymore, the problem is clearly solved.
  4. If your printer is still an Offline Printer, continue with our next steps.

Step 3 :

  1. If the PC is not able to see the printer with a USB port connection and it’s showing Printer Offline, reboot the PC, reboot the offline printer, and check the cable if it is connected properly.
  2. Turn off the offline printer and your PC, and then remove the USB cable from the PC USB
  3. Analyze the —
    • Inspect for any damage or misalign. If the offline printer cable is damaged, change the cable.
    • Analyze the length of the cable that you use with an offline printer. If the wire is more than three meters in length, change the cable with one that is less long.
  4. Plug the cable to another USB port on the PC. The port must be USB 2.0 or upper version. If you are using a USB hub or docking station, don’t plug your offline printer in it. connect the cable directly to the main PC in the CPU.
  5. Make sure the cable is fully plugged to both ports in the printer and in the CPU.
  6. Start the PC, and then wait for the PC to finish the starting processes.
  7. Start the printer windows and wait for the PC to install the new device and get new device drivers if available.

Step 4:

Troubleshooting Offline Printer having Lan cable as the communication medium.

To change the connection between the offline printer and PC, Remove and reconnect the LAN wire.

  1. Shut down the offline printer, and then remove the LAN cable from the router.
  2. Check the cable.
  3. See for any damage. If the wire is damaged, change the cable.
  4. Be sure the wire is totally secured to all ends.
  5. Be sure the wire is a LAN cable and not a mobile or Landline cable. LAN cables and mobile cables look the same but are different in sizes.
  6. Plug the wire to an alternate LAN port on the router. Avoid plugging the cable to the Internet slot.

Print a Network Configuration Page:
  • Printers with a touch control panel or text-based LCD: Print the sheet from the Wireless, Network Settings, or Setup list of options.
  • Printers with switches only: Print the report using control combinations on the printer switch panel. For several printers, press the Wireless key and Info key simultaneously, or push the Wireless key and Start Copy Black key simultaneously.
  • Review the General Information section on the first page. Make sure the Network Status displays as ready.
  • Get back to the Devices and Printers window, Refresh the page and see if your Offline printer is back online.
  • If your printer is not Offline Printer anymore, the problem is clearly solved.
  • If your printer is still an Offline Printer, continue with these procedures.
