Print or scan issues after macOS update

Print or scan issues after macOS update : On macOS, printing and scanning are ordinarily a slick process and handled very carefully and flawlessly by the HP drivers and accompanying printing or scanning apps. macOS has been long known for its minimalism in usage, adaptability in making modifications and app security. However, the macOS version codenamed Sierra has a vulnerability and incompatibility issue with HP printing. The key problem is associated with scanning a page. When attempting to scan using the scan button on the printer, it may display errors like:

  • Scan to computer cannot be enabled
  • Waiting for scanner (the process is stuck at this point)
  • Connection required: Selected computer is not available

These issues are common and occur when you do not have Scan to Computer enabled on your OS. However, there are various alternative ways of accomplishing this and they are as follows.

Scan with Apple Image Capture

If your HP Scan utility is incompatible with Sierra OS, then you may use Apple Image Capture to scan a document.

  1. Click on Finder , and then select Go.
  2. Do a double-click on Applications. Then double-click on Image Capture, select your printer model and then click Scan.
  3. If there are issues in the scanning process, please continue to the next step.

Uninstalling the printer software

You may remove the HP Printing software/utility by uninstalling it using the HP Uninstaller app.

  1. Select Finder which is located in your OS’s dock at the bottom of the display.
  2. Click on Go from the menu, then select Applications and then open the folder named as Hewlett Packard.
  3. Open the HP Uninstaller and proceed with the uninstallation process of the HP Printing software.

Installing the latest printer driver version and software for Sierra OS

If your driver is pretty old, then it may also create print or scan issues on macOS. You should update it to the latest version from the HP website. First, visit 123.hp.com, and then select your printer model. Download the latest driver for Sierra OS.

If your printer is not listed on this page, go to HP Software and Driver Downloads. Once done, try to scan a document using the control panel.

Restart your operating system

You may restart the computer and let the operating system finish loading. After that, try to scan a document from the control panel and see if it works.

Ensure that Scan to Computer is enabled

  1. On your computer desktop, click on Macintosh HD.
  2. Select and click on Applications, then open the Hewlett Packard folder and double-click to open HP Utility.
  3. Under scan settings, ensure that the Scan to Computer option is selected.
  4. Try scanning from the control panel of the printer. If the issue still persists, continue to the next step.

Try to scan by connecting the printer directly with a USB Cable

Wireless connections can face serious network connectivity issues. As a result, the scan process may not work properly unless your network is well configured. Therefore, connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable and try the scanning process again.

Issues on macOS Catalina

Similarly, macOS Catalina also has some distinct print or scan issues on macOS. The following issues may occur when attempting to scan or print on macOS Catalina. If you are facing issues on this OS version, you should update to the latest patch for Catalina. This is dated 28th January 2020. The update should fix all the minor issues which occur in macOS Catalina.
