Reconnect printer after changing router – Offline to Online

Reconnect printer after changing router – Offline to Online : This article contains information about troubleshooting the HP printer offline after changing the router or LAN device. This article also contains information about how to reconnect printer to a wireless network.

You will learn how to connect again to the printer, which was working just fine with some other network, but it became offline after you changed your wifi router.

This problem basically happens when you change your internet provider, you change your wifi password, or your router has some internal setting problems.

We will be looking at two types of printers today. One with a touch screen panel and the other one without.

How to reconnect printer to a wireless network:

Printer with touch screen control panel

You must open a wireless wizard through your offline printer control system, it will help you to get connected your new or problematic Wi-Fi network

  1. From the touch panel, select wireless icon
  2. Touch the icon that looks like a gear. It is basically a settings icon. If your printer is arriving from imported goods it may be in another language. So, as we said you have to select the icon that looks like a gear
  3. Now the offline printer will look for surrounding Wi-Fi networks
  4. Select your home network and connect with it just like you do with your smartphones or laptops. Select home Wi-Fi and enter your password.
  5. The printer will now become discoverable in your pc or mobile and you can use it for printing the stuff you want.
  6. In case your offline printer fails to connect to the Wi-Fi router, you have to generate some reports about Wi-Fi connectivity from inside your printer. Reading that report will make you aware of the problem that occurs when it tries to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
  7. Wi-Fi router change can make your printer offline but basically it is due to the reason that printer fails to detect a new network or password automatically, it keeps trying to connect old network with old information that you provided earlier. As soon as you update the details, your network will be connected, and your problem will be solved.
  8. The above tutorial will help you to reconnect your offline printer to the changed or reconfigured router.

A printer that does not have anything like touchscreen for access to settings

  1. We are going to use WPS to connect such non-touchscreen printers to your reconfigured router.
  2. Find the WPS button on your Wi-Fi router, but do not touch it yet. The WPS button must be located below or behind your router. It is basically a small button that you have to push if you don’t know the password of the Wi-Fi network that you are using. So when you use this WPS button, you can connect any device with your Wi-Fi router without using any kind of password or a key.
  3. Turn on your device. You can press the power switch on your printer to turn it on.
  4. Open printer related software on your computer and see available Wi-Fi network for your printer.
  5. Connect to your home Wi-Fi.
  6. Wait and DO NOT connect to the network with a password. Press the WPS button now which we talked about in the article earlier.
  7. NOW your printer should be connected to your Wi-Fi router without entering any kind of password. EASY. Right?
  8. If your printer fails to connect to the router which you recently bought or reconfigured, just try to do all the above steps with again.
  9. Sometimes you might be trying to connect a wrong network with the same name as your network. In that case, you have to change the name of your Wi-Fi network to something unique. After you do so, you can do all the above steps again and try to connect your printer to the newly bought Wi-Fi router or reconfigured router.
  10. There are various other ways to connect if all above fails, but we will be seeing them in detail in another model-specific article. Kudos!
